the new brain - evolved in mammals, long after the older parts (the reptilian brain) responsible for most ‘higher’ functions - (intelligence?) language basically its the bit that got added on to the brain, that does higher level processing of incoming data/senses, for greater predictive ability.. (this is slightly speculative) for this it needs a memory system, sequencing, formation of rich networks to enable abstract modelling…
